Summer Viewing Update, Pt. 1
Well, it's summer. Summer means a few things: a) nothing to watch on TV, b) nothing to DO without suffering from heat stroke - at least not until the sun goes down, then you work early, so there really is nothing to do, and c) tans for everyone.
To help you through these trying months as you wait for your favorite programs to return (c'mon HOUSE!!), I've chosen to write about some of the shows I partake in viewing. Some are oldies and goodies, some are new and exciting. So if you wanna mix it up this Summer and choose NOT to watch reruns of the fall season, get ready for some good readin'!
Returnees
The 4400 - Story of 4400 people abducted (by whom is the big question) since 1946 who are returned to Seattle, Washington at the same time. They haven't aged a day and are just trying to lead their lives...Sucks, though, cuz they came back with special powers and we know how humans feel about things that are diffent. Mayhem and shenanigans ensue. (USA Network)
My Reason For Watching - Good storylines, good acting. Sci-Fi story in a not-so-sci-fi setting...Not to mention Patrick Flueger with his sexy little self.
Rescue Me - Story of FDNY firefighters and what they go through day to day. As a unit and as individuals. Trials, tribulations, deaths, betrayals, sex and a WHOLE lotta dirty language makes this one of my favorites. (FX)
My Reason For Watching - Reminds me of home. Always been a Denis Leary fan so it's good to see him a part of such success.
The Closer - Story of a southern girl once employed by the CIA to get confessions from suspects to make cases airtight. She's head of a Department in L.A. where she works with her old boss/ex-boyfriend and struggles to be respected by her own merit.
My Reason For Watching - Good show, entertaining stories, AWESOME mysteries. Kind of like a soul food version of CSI minus the zoom-ins.
So You Think You Can Dance - American Idol meets Flashdance. Like Queens, it's Brooklyn's little brother trying to make a mark.
My Reason For Watching - I love to dance and find it entertaining. Nothing real stand out about this show, it's just something I watch. Easily forgettable.
Huff - Back for another season, this is the story of Craig Huffstodt, a psychiatrist and his SERIOUSLY dysfuctional family. His brother's a schizophrenic, him mom's an alcoholic, his wife's a spoiled brat, his son takes pictures of dead animals and his best friend is a coke fiend, need I say more?
My Reason For Watching - Reminiscent of "What About Bob?" intensified with drugs and harsh language...I love it!
Deadwood - Western story about Western people in the Old West. Kinda like the Sopranos, just with dirt roads, horse-drawn carriages and 1-bullet guns and muskets.
My Reason For Watching - I don't, I've never been a fan of Westerns but I hear this one's good.
Entourage - Vince Chase and the crew are back!! Complete with the agent that's just a lucky jerk, Mr. Ari Gold and his wacky crew of bandits and some spectacular music, you've got this MONSTER of an awesome show that caters to all (adult) audiences. Set in Hollywood, it's the story of 4 NY boys trying to become superstars. Actually, Vince is the only successful actor and everyone else's success is a direct result of it (DRAMA: "I'm the reason you came out here", TURTLE: "Yeah, but Vince is the reason we stayed."
My Reason For Watching - I love buddy comedies, especially well written ones. This has a street quality that doean't make it so "Hollywood."
That's all I can muster up right now, I'll check back in with the new shows coming out and a few more favorites I"m excited about.
