DiCaprio Revisited
I'd like to take you all to a time back in the day (which was a Wednesday) circa 1996 when I had what my friends liked to call an "unhealthy" attraction to Leonardo DiCaprio. He made my cry in Romeo & Juliet, made me feel for him as the Man in the Iron Mask, had me pulling for him in Basketball Diaries and I wanted him to be the king of my world in Titanic (I had to do that, I'm sorry). Then he disappeared on me for like, 2 years (6 years Hollywood time) only to re-emerge in the waste of celluloid called The Beach. Then there was the (epic?) Gangs of New York, which I couldn't sit through without falling asleep (I'll have to take a "Braveheart" day to get through it...in time). I never saw The Aviator, but I've heard good things (side note: not to be a retard about this, but as an avid moviegoer, I canNOT seem to wrap my head around Oscar winning films, it takes me FOREVER to get around to watching them and when I do, the experience is usually so painful I never talk about it again) and plan to check it out one day. But on to the point of today's blog.
DiCaprio's fly. And yes, I made you read through all that to say it. He's grown from a scrawny, Abercrombie & Fitch teenager with pretty boy good looks into a genuinely handsome man. The eyes are still as brilliant and dreamy as they were in '96, but they are now deeper and more complex. They are the eyes of a man. A man that's fly and worked his way into my most recent of fantasies.
Today I saw The Departed (AWESOME) (and Employee of the Month (viewable)) and once I was able to get past the first 5 minutes (two words: "niggers" and "chappies") I was hit with the realization that Leonardo DiCaprio is in fact one of the most handsome men I've ever seen. Even more so cuz I've been oddly attracted to him since I was 16 years old. Scruffy or clean, the man could definitely work his way into my babymaker. He's just got that "zing." And since 2/3 of my readers are guys (that's 4 out of 6), I'm going to move on.
Leo's not the only handsome man I've called from back in the day. I have this innate ability to be able to call when someone is going to be handsome (or pretty) down the line. Being an ugly duckling myself, I guess it's not hard to see the potential in people. I called Justin Timberlake, long before he cut off that terrible perm in '99. Mark Wahlberg, long before he decided he'd be an actor and a bodybuilder. I semi-called Chris Brown, he's still at what I like to call the "turning point," he can go either way. Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Jamie Foxx (with the Wanda get up), Ryan Reynolds (before he lost the baby fat from Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place) Kadeem Hardison and Vin Diesel were all my calls. I've also said that Corey will be handsome when he grows up, along with a few of my cousins. It's just what I do.
It just struck me how handsome Leo was and I had to share. Sometimes it's what we need, to reconnect and remember those things that first made us fall in love. Check out the Departed, it's good stuff. That's it for this session of DiCaprio Revisited.
