CotDAMN!!

Are you f'n KIDDING me?!? It's barely been two weeks since Sheryl Swoopes "came out" with this nonsense and women's sports has been running amuck with rumors of lesbianism. The latest addition: Layla Ali. Ms. Ali is now divorced and apparently dating none other than singer/rapper/actress Queen Latifah, otherwise known as Dana Owens.

My question is: What the HELL is going on?!? Okay, when Swoopes came out, I'll admit I made ONE comment ("All WNBA players aren't lesbians, huh? Way to go about blasting THAT stereotype") and kept it moving. I guess I didn't really think about the repercussions because I'm not a lesbian (sorry, fellas, that ain't EVER goin' down, I don't care HOW much I love you so get it out of your heads NOW), but it's made quite a ripple. There have been calls for the next
gay male athlete to come out because apparently we're "ready for it" as well as endorsements to make sure everyone's represented. Now look, I'm all about not hiding who you truly are and living your life to the fullest and yadda yadda yadda. But don't shove it down our throats.

I'm the Queen of Queers, gay men LOVE me. I don't know why or what it is about me, but I can't go to the damn grocery store without running into some gay guy who just wants to hang out with me. Needless to say, none of it fares well as far as my love life is concerned, but I digress. The point of this blog is to say that in a world where men wear
pink diamond rings and the precious metal market actually matters, don't we have enough to focus on than whom the people we watch bounce, toss and/or kick balls are givin' the business to?

Sports are sports. They're meant to entertain and excite. It's one of the few mindless things we as Americans have to enjoy. The personal lives of athletes shouldn't even matter. As long as a shot's been hit and a touchdown's been scored, who the hell cares where the "slam dunk's" bein' landed? The purity of viewing is being tainted. No one wants John Madden or Terry Bradshaw saying "Well, maybe Terrell Owens missed that pass because of the fight he and McNabb had earlier this week. It's gotta be tough working with your live in lover." (TOTALLY made up situation, I want NO lawsuits) WHAT?!? What's that got to do with anything? Why does what goes on between the sheets even affect what happens on the field or on the court? It's nonsense, not sports. If it's not sports, it's cotdamn un-American.

I'm just tired of sexuality infiltrating the one thing I enjoy. It started with MTV and I'll be damned if ESPN starts in on the trend. So, if you're a gay athlete, good for you, the whole world doesn't have to know. You don't see straight people in the fashion industry coming out with THEIR sexual preference, do you? Let's K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, stupid) and make up and let sports be the mindless, adrenaline filled adventures of the past we've come to love. I'm all about the boundary breaking Sheryl and Layla are trying to do, but again, it's personal. We all know gays exist and we've gotta deal with it, but PLEASE forsake the very last American thing we've got, cotDAMN!
